Our whole approach to The Dog Public House is driven by a passion for food and drink. The daily excitement that comes with the use of fresh locally sourced produce and a constant desire to put a smile on our customers faces.
Cooked by one of the landlords using seasonal produce and plenty of local game, the bar food includes sandwiches, marinated white anchovies or hummus with bread sticks, smooth chicken liver pâté with melba toast and apple chutney, smoked haddock fishcake with tomato and basil sauce, goats cheese with red onion, toasted pepper and basil tart, slow-cooked american-style beef short ribs, braised shoulder of lamb, game casserole, gressingham duck confit in garlic and red wine with truffle mash, and puddings such as banana and bacardi crème brulée and hazelnut, Amaretto and chocolate loaf with chantilly cream. Starters/Snacks: £2.50 to £5.25. Main Courses: £8.00 to £12.00. Puddings: £3.25 to £4.25 THE GOOD PUB GUIDE 2008
Civilised, friendly pub run by two brothers with enjoyable food, nice drinks and log fire; garden with play area
You can be sure of a friendly welcome in this pink-washed pub attractively placed near the village green. It’s run by two brothers who have refurbished the public bar on the left which now has oak settles and dark wooden carvers around a mix of tables on the tiles and an open log fire – no more games machines or piped music. The softly lit and relaxing carpeted lounge bar on the left remains unchanged: comfortable seating around dark oak tables, antique engravings on its crushed raspberry walls and unusual flowers in the windows. It links with a similar bare-boards dining room, with some attractive antique oak settles. Adnams Bitter and Broadside and a guest like Timothy Taylors Landlord on handpump, half-a-dozen wines by the glass and good espresso coffee; the atmosphere is civilised and relaxed. The jack russell is called Poppy. There are quite a few picnic-sets out in front by flowering tubs and the fenced back garden has a play area.
Proudly selected as the best gastro pub in the East Anglia region for the Morning Advertiser Great British Pub Awards 2008.
